Tell Me Your Story (TM)

2010:   Members of Verizon Pioneers - WJ Denver Chapter, join members of Springfield Forward, Councilman Melvin Edwards, Principal Teri Powe, School Counselor Gianna Allentuck and teachers and students at the Elias Brookings School in Springfield to celebrate the Verizon Pioneers donation of hundreds of dictionaries, theasurus' and atlases to the students at the Elias Brookings School.   The Verizon Pioneers WJ Denver Chapter support educational and literacy programs in our schools.

Verizon Pioneers - WJ Denver Chapter present a donation to Springfield Forward at the Elias Brookings School.  This donation will continue to fund the Springfield Forward literacy program "Tell me Your Story" whereby elementary school students write and illustrate their own books, learning how much fun reading and writing can be.   Verizon Pioneers - WJ Denver Chapter has been generously funding this program for the past 2 years, allowing Springfield Forward volunteers to continue working with Springfield elementary school students, helping them enhance their vocabulary and reading skills.  Best of all, at the end of each session student participants end up with their own story finished in book form, with their photo and bio inside.  What a great way to learn!

Springfield Forward volunteers have produced a unique literacy program for the Springfield Sumner Elementary School community.

Over the past two years, with financial support from the Verizon Pioneers - W. J. Denver Chapter, Springfield Forward has developed the "Tell Me Your Story" program inspiring elementary school children to write stories about their lives, their dreams and experiences.  Springfield Forward volunteers devote their time during and after school hours to help produce these unique stories into polished books, written and illustrated by the children.  At the end of the program, all the children who participated and submitted their stories are invited to read out loud their wonderful stories.

Words cannot express the joy and sense of achievement these children experience.  Cited below of some of the highlights of the program from 2009.
