Springfield Forward Donates Clothing To Springfield School Children One of Springfield Forward’s most joyful projects is donating warm winter gear to Springfield students in need. For 2 years running, Springfield Forward gathered hundreds of items including gloves, scarves, winter jackets, sweaters, hats, socks and boots and distributed them to school children at the Sumner Avenue and Elias Brookings Schools in Springfield. “Our first year was great! We collected so many items that it took 3 cars to bring the bags and boxes to the school. This year, our second year, was phenomenal! We had so many things, that we were able to deliver hundreds of items of warm winter gear to students at 2 Springfield Schools. This is what volunteerism is all about, this is where we make a genuine difference. These are our communities and these kids are OUR KIDS. Every bit helps” said Ellen Pappas, former President of Springfield Forward. “Donating warm winter gear for students in need is a yearly project and one we are extremely happy to participate in.” “Giving can be fun” concurred Sara O’Martian, a lifetime Springfield resident. “Giving to the Sumner Avenue School student’s was a great start to the holidays, and making a similar donation to the Brookings School is a great start to a new year. I’ve lived in Springfield for 79 years and I am proud to be a member of a group where we roll up our sleeves, do the work, and make a difference in our City.”
